Who We Are

Nazarene Way Church is a community devoted to restoring the original faith of Jesus the Nazarene (known by his Aramaic name, "Yeshua"). We are committed to following the authentic Way that existed before it was altered by later traditions.

We are not Christian and not Jewish in the modern sense. Our mission is singular: to follow the faith and teachings of Jesus himself, the faith once held by his family, his disciples, and the early assembly in Jerusalem.

Over time, this original Way was replaced by the religion shaped largely by Paul of Tarsus, whose writings comprise thirteen of the twenty-seven books in the New Testament. Paul’s doctrines often conflicted with the direct teachings and practices of Jesus, leading to a distortion of the message that Jesus and his brother James lived and died for.

At Nazarene Way Church, we seek to return to that uncorrupted foundation. We observe the same sacred days that Jesus observed—and we refrain from treating the pagan festivals later adopted by Rome, such as Easter and Christmas, as religious holidays. (Of course, one is welcome to celebrate Christmas as it is—a societal holiday.)

We practice baptism in living, natural waters, honoring the ancient custom handed down from John the Baptizer and continued by Jesus and his disciples. We gather on the Sabbath, as did the earliest followers of the Way.

Our church headquarters are located in Southern California, and we welcome all who are seeking truth—people from every walk of life—to join us in restoring the original beliefs, practices, and spirit of Jesus the Nazarene.
