Church History

Nazarene Way Church was founded in 2024 by Brother Scott Scheper, following nearly a decade of research into First-Century Judaism and Roman history—the very world in which the faith of Jesus first took shape.

For years, Brother Scott searched for a congregation that reflected the original teachings of Jesus the Nazarene—a community that would honor the same faith and practices kept by his disciples and the generations that followed them. He longed for a church that did not celebrate pagan festivals such as Easter, but instead embraced the same rhythms of worship that Jesus himself observed: baptism in living waters, Sabbath gatherings, and a life centered upon the two greatest commandments—to love your neighbor as yourself, and to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.

Scripture and history alike reveal that Jesus’ brother James the Just led the first assembly after Jesus’ death. At his side were Peter (Cephas) and John, who together were known as the Three Pillars of Jerusalem. This early council guided the Nazarene movement in faith, unity, and righteousness.

In the same spirit, Nazarene Way Church was founded with three original members, who spearheaded the church’s growing leadership council:

Brother Scott Scheper, Founder and Spiritual Leader

Tessa Scheper, Co-Founder and Administrator

Evan Webb, Council Member and Steward of Fellowship

From the beginning, the church has gathered for Sabbath services—the same sacred time observed by Jesus and his disciples. These services are broadcast online, allowing seekers from around the world to join in the restoration of the original Way.

What began as a small assembly has since grown rapidly, drawing believers who hunger for authenticity and truth. Nazarene Way Church is now prayerfully working toward acquiring a dedicated property in Southern California, where the community can gather regularly, study the teachings of Jesus the Nazarene, and continue his mission: to love, to serve, and to restore. For now, you can find us at Tijeras Creek Elementary School every Saturday morning.
